About Thakey — the Islamic cryptogram game
Thakey is a free Islamic cryptogram game that pairs the fun of puzzles with words worth knowing. In every puzzle the hidden text is a verse from the Qur'an, an authentic Hadith, or a saying of a scholar. You crack the cipher letter by letter to reveal the text — reading and remembering it as you go. Thakey is available in Arabic and English and runs in any mobile or desktop browser, with nothing to install.
What is an Islamic cryptogram?
A cryptogram is a puzzle in which every letter of a piece of text is replaced by another fixed letter; your job is to discover the substitution and reveal the original text. In Thakey the text is always an authenticated Islamic source, so solving the puzzle becomes a gentle way to revisit and memorise verses and hadith.
Content categories
- Qur'an verses: shown for solving in the standard (imlā'ī) spelling so they are easy to type, then revealed in the Uthmani script with the surah and ayah reference and a short tafsir.
- Prophetic Hadith: from authenticated collections, with the source and hadith number, and an option to show the text only or the text with its chain of narration (isnad).
- Sayings of scholars: well-known sayings of notable scholars, attributed to their authors.
Why Thakey?
All religious text is shown verbatim from authenticated sources, never paraphrased or AI-generated, with a full reference kept for every entry. The game also offers several modes: solo puzzles, an endless ramping "Path", and real-time Team vs Team, plus hints, difficulty levels, and a daily and weekly leaderboard.
How to play — in brief
- Choose a category and level: Pick Qur'an, Hadith or Scholars, then a difficulty (Easy, Medium or Hard) and a play mode.
- Crack the code: Each coded cell stands for a hidden letter. Select a cell and choose the letter you think it represents — correct letters fill in everywhere they appear.
- Use hints wisely: Stuck? Reveal a letter, hear a related recitation, or see the source. Each wrong guess costs a heart, so think before you tap.
- Reveal and learn: Finish the puzzle to reveal the full verse or hadith with its reference and a short explanation (tafsir), then continue to the next one.
